How do the Danes react when Beowulf and his men arrive at the harbor to fight Grendel?

Answers

Answer:

When the men along with Beowulf arrived at the harbor of the Danes-land, the guard questioned them, even suspecting them of being spies.

Explanation:

The epic narrative "Beowulf" revolves around the heroic deeds of Beowulf and his bravery in helping the Danes defeat the menacing monster Grendel and kill him. The poem is one of the oldest tales of epic narration about old-age chivalry, bravery, and heroism.

Chapter IV of the text narrates how Beowulf heard about Grendel terrorizing the Danes and decided to help them. So, he set out with fourteen men and set sail for Hrothgar's kingdom. In "Till twenty and four hours", they reached the Danes-land and immediately set foot to go to the king's court when the guard at the harbor went to meet them. He said, "Who are ye men here, mail-covered warriors / Clad in your corslets, come thus a-driving / A high riding ship o’er the shoals of the waters, / And hither ’neath helmets have hied o’er the ocean?" He questions them, even suspecting them of being "[...] treacherous spies to the land of the Scyldings".

This shows that Beowulf and his men were suspected of coming to spy on the Danes.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Unless you become a historian and such, people won’t see it as important and nobody really values it and think of it as useless.

But I think differently

You see, to others it may seem to be useless but to yourself and what you can do with it, it provides value that the person can see only. Some of the ways that it’s value are

Life lessons : When you learn history you see the things that people have experienced and what they did with it, how they did it, and how they shared it with others. You learn small things that you can use to your advantage like how others made it through hard times.

Why the world is the way it is : If you don’t value history, you miss out on important things such a why the world is they way it today, why it happened, and see how it still influences our daily lives. Value History and you won’t be blind of the past

Historical Mistakes : History is filled with mistakes of some of the most successful people that have ever lived and therefore you should take the chance of how to avoid it, and in the worst scenario, how to get out of it. You end up avoiding common mistakes by learning from the past

School Classes : When you value something , you like the thing, and therefore should say that it would help you in History classes because if it is fun, then it becomes much easier than you think and therefore gives you a class that you can have fun taking.

What is the summary for knights and dragons?

I sit at my desk listening to thunder growl outside my window. Flashes of light burst through the darkness, and wind races past my window. The thrilling combination of sight and sound conjures up visions of dragons roaring proudly, breathing fire, and soaring across the midnight sky. Dragons first fascinated me when I was a little girl. They have followed me ever since. The magnificent creatures appeared in storybooks I read in the library, paintings I saw in museums, movies I watched in the theater, and the dreams I had in my sleep. By the time I was thirteen, one question consumed me. Determined to discover if dragons could have actually existed, I set out on a quest for facts.

As I started my research, I discovered many skeptics. Scientists presented evidence to show why dragons could not – and did not – exist. They explained that it would be impossible for dragons to fly because they were too big. They laughed at the idea of dragons breathing fire. They pointed out that no other animal has ever done this. They said that if dragons had lived, someone would have found remains somewhere in the world. No bones about it, there were plenty of logical explanations. It would have been easy for me to accept that the only place dragons ever existed was in the imaginations of those who believed.

I could have given up, but I thought about my grandmother. She always told me that "people who believe that science is the answer to everything are missing out on everything else." With her words in mind, I read more about dragons. I noticed that cultures across the world all described dragons in similar ways. This was odd because they had no way to communicate with each other. I found notes about dragons in old legal papers and in the travel logs of people like Marco Polo. Dragons were also mentioned in the Bible. I saw that the Chinese calendar uses a different animal each year. Dragons are included along with eleven real animals. I began to believe it was a real possibility that all of these people were talking about a creature that actually existed.

With renewed hope that there was some truth to the legends, I looked for new research. I found that some experts disagreed

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True

A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High

[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.

[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."

[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.

[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).

5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.

[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.

How does the speaker's rhetorical question in paragraph 2 support the purpose of the speech?

A) It emphasizes the need for willing and wealthy volunteers to bring help to those less fortunate.

B) It highlights how unfair life can be for certain groups of people throughout the world.

C) It reinforces the idea that voluntourism can harm the people and communities it is meant to help.

D) It reminds the audience that there are some who fight the injustice associated with voluntourism.

Answers

Answer:

C.) It emphasizes the selfish and superficial motivation behind volunteer opportunities  that can harm the communities it is meant to help

Explanation:

Answer:

C)

Explanation:

Wow, this prompt is very interesting, I recently volunteered and this is making me reconsider what I'm doing. Anyways, the introductory paragraph is an introduction to how volunteering can hurt the very communities it is trying to help.

Naturally, the second paragraph is an extension of the first paragraph. It begins to introduce examples such as animal sanctuaries and orphanages being manufactured as a plot to spark volunteerism, specifically for "volunteer plus travel."

Now, the answer is not D, because the second paragraph doesn't introduce any parties or groups of people that are necessarily fighting the injustices associated with voluntourism.

C is the best answer because it says childrne are being kept poor so volunteers will spend money to come to area to volunteer. Here's the quote: "However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area?" Also the last sentence in the second paragraph matches up so well with the answer C.

Last sentence: Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."

Answer C: It reinforces the idea that voluntourism can harm the people and communities it is meant to help.
