What are poems?Poems which are also called verse are a form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre to evoke meanings in addition to, or place of, a prosaic ostensible meaning. A poem is a literary composition, written by a poet, using this principle.
Poetry has a long and varied history, evolving differentially across the globe. It dates back at least to prehistoric times with hunting poetry in Africa and to panegyric and elegiac court poetry of the empires of the Nile, Niger, and Volta River valleys. Some of the earliest written poetry in Africa occurs among the Pyramid Texts written during the 25th century BCE.
The earliest surviving Western Asian epic poetry, the Epic of Gilgamesh, was written in Sumerian.

My class is doing a court case on Tell-tale Heart. I need 15 questions for people in the room. Please read the tell-tale heart then think of questions that could help me win my case against the narrator. Come up with 5 questions that I (the lawyer) could use against the narrator.
If you need different questions from the ones below, let me know and I will try my best to assist.
Questions to use against the narrator:
You yourself entertained the thought that you might be insane, but ultimately brush it aside. You express that you have no reason to kill the man, yet you kill him. This contradiction is proof that while you were insane, you knew what you did was wrong. Why not seek help?
If you truly felt remorse for your actions, why was your first instinct to dispose of the body rather than to immediately confess to your crime?
You spent more than a week setting up this murder. This was not a spur of the moment murder. It was premeditated. Can you justify this? Does this not prove you to be a guilty individual?
You express taking pride in your work. Is this something that a stable, innocent person would do?
Questions for the room:
(I apologize, but I could only come up with ten.)
Is the narrator reliable?
Were his actions justified?
Was his guilt genuine, or was it just an attribute of his psychosis?
Was he truly seeing the ‘evil eye’?
Even if he was, is fear a reason to murder?
Is the beating of the heart evidence of insanity?
He talked about his feelings of power and excitement breaking into the old man’s chamber. Does this not further prove that he should be imprisoned?
Does that not prove that he is not only a murderer, but a person who enjoys the act of killing?
Should a person of this type not be punished and placed where they cannot hurt another person?
This man dismembered a human. If you found a body that had been ripped apart, you would want the person who did it to be put away right?

The Ornithopter
Many people know Leonardo da Vinci today as an artist, and it is true that he was indeed a great painter and sculptor, but he was also an inventor and one of the first individuals in recorded history to draft detailed plans for a flying machine.
In order to make a living, Leonardo often depended upon wealthy individuals who would commission work from him. That means they would hire him and pay him to create specific work they wanted. In 1482, when he was 30 years old, Leonardo heard of an opportunity to work for Ludovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan. The duke, however, did not want a painter; he wanted a military engineer to help him defend the city against its enemies. This was an excellent opportunity that would pay Leonardo well, but Leonardo was a peaceful man. He considered war to be “a beastly madness.” He preferred to make things of beauty.
Leonardo made the decision that he could tolerate making weapons if the resources the duke could provide would also allow him to create things he loved. He sent a letter to the duke detailing his skills in designing and building weapons. “I will assemble catapults, mangonels, trebuchets and other instruments of wonderful efficiency…I will make an infinite number of items for attack and defense,” he wrote.
Leonardo’s letter convinced the duke of his talents, and he got the job. He set about designing the weapons that the duke desired. But Leonardo was infinitely creative, always thinking of new things, new ideas—he could not be limited to weapons alone. One idea that he had not mentioned in his application was the ornithopter. It was not a weapon of war, and it was not something that the duke had asked for, but Leonardo went ahead and designed it anyway.
Leonardo was fascinated by the idea of flight. The word “ornithopter” comes from two words meaning “bird” and “wings.” And on first inspection, his plans resembled a bird’s wings attached to a human being’s arms. He concluded that a human being’s arms were neither strong enough nor light enough to stay in the air for long. So, his design included sets of foot pedals and levers that were operated with the hands. He created detailed plans and presented them to the duke, uncertain of how the duke would react to a design for which he didn’t ask.
As it turned out, the duke was very impressed with the ornithopter, but it wasn’t Leonardo’s innovation that excited him. He immediately thought of the ways this machine could be used in war. If a spy could fly over the enemy’s camp, imagine what information he could gather! This was not what Leonardo had intended for his beautiful flying machine.
But how Leonardo felt about war turned out not to matter in the end. His ornithopter was never built—along with his designs for tanks, parachutes, diving suits, machine guns, and even robots that he created for the duke. The ideas of Leonardo da Vinci were centuries ahead of the technology needed to make them.

Golden Days
by Lizzie Lawson
There are days of summer sunshine,
Of warm and sunny weather,
When the hedge is full of hawthorn
And hills are glad with heather.
There are days of silent sadness,
Of frost, and snow, and rain,
When we fear that summer's gladness
Will never come again.
And now our songs are minor key,
And now in merry tune;
The windward side will change to lee,
And January to June.
Day and night the sun is shining,
Though he may hide his head;
Each cloud has a silver lining,
The flowers are asleep not dead.
Every day may have its playtime
Made bright by cheerful lays;
And life be one long Maytime,
A year of golden days.
Read the theme.
Life, like nature, has pleasant and unpleasant moments.
How does this theme develop over the course of "Golden Days"?
Happiness is like the warmth of summer, and sadness is like the coldness of winter.

Major cities all over the world are changing color. The tall gray buildings that make up the landscape of urban environments are becoming greener. They aren't getting a fresh coat of paint. Instead, their roofs are being covered in grass and small shrubbery. Many rooftops are beginning to look like nature parks. This change isn't just for fun. It is an attempt to add plants that can clean city air, absorb waste water, and generally add beauty to the city environment.
Green roofs started in Europe and are now gaining a strong foothold in the United States. They are a way to add a little nature to the city environment. People plant vegetable gardens, flowers, and decorative grasses on their rooftops. One green roof in New York City is built on top of a processing and distribution facility. It is the largest green roof in the country. It has survived snow and rain, given employees a beautiful place for a lunch break, and helped clean the city air.
It is more expensive to build a green roof than it is to lay asphalt or shingles. The basic green roof requires a frame and a waterproof membrane. It also requires gravel for drainage. Special material needs to be laid to retain moisture. Of course, soil for planting and a barrier that prevents roots from penetrating the building are also necessary materials for a green roof. Despite the extra cost, the trend is growing.
The city of Chicago now has more green roofs than any other U.S. city. There are 7 million square feet of green roofs planted across the city. Toronto, Canada, is the first city in the western hemisphere to mandate green roofs on all new tall buildings. Green roofs are beneficial to the environment and the cities that build them. A recent study in Toronto suggested that if 75 percent of the flat roofs were greened, the city could save $37 million a year on storm water management and energy bills. If this is true, we may begin to see more and more green added to cities around the world.
Why does the author include the point that there are 7 million square feet of green roofs planted across the city of Chicago?
A. To paint a picture of what the green roofs in Chicago look like.
B. To exaggerate how many green roofs there are in the city.
C. To show that Chicago has not accepted the green roof trend.
D. To prove that Chicago has the most green roofs in the United States.

Answer:
below
Explanation:
One of the more obvious differences is the language, its hard for us to understand since the way we write and talk is so different. Instead of saying "younger than she are happy mothers made", we would simply say people have been married younger and been happy. When reading "She hath not seen the change of fourteen years, let two more summers wither in their pride, ere we may think her ripe to be a bride" we need to remember that people back then didn't leave very long so they often married at a very young age. Without looking into it, getting married is a shocker now but when you die at thirty you need to marry early.
